COMPETITION RULES SHOWING AMENDMENTS FOLLOWING 2024 AGM
1. GENERAL RULES
1.1 These rules may be changed only at an Annual General Meeting or at a Special General Meeting. Alterations must be approved by at least two-thirds of Members at the meeting.
1.2 The rules are available to view on the club website (www.tyndalephoto.org) and in the Handbook.
1.3 The following competitions will be held during each season:–
· Monthly Print and Monthly PDI Competitions. These will consist of five separate point-scoring competitions for both Prints and PDIs with four being ‘open’ subjects and one being a subject determined by the Committee and published in advance on the club website and in the Handbook.
· One Print and one PDI Landscape Competition.
· One Folio Five PDI Competition.
· One Print and one PDI Personal Selection Competition.
· One Print of the Year Competition and one PDI of the Year Competition.
· Photographer of the Year Competition.
1.4 Competitions are open only to fully paid-up members.
1.5 The schedule of competitions can be viewed on the club website and in the Handbook.
1.6 All competitions will be judged wherever possible by an outside, independent judge.
1.7 The Hon. Treasurer will issue each member with a competition number and all competition entries must show this number.
1.8 All images must have been produced as a result of the subject being exposed to light. Computer-generated images and clip art are not eligible.
1.9 All competition entries must be submitted to the appropriate Hon Competition Secretary by the dates shown in the Programme on the club website and in the Handbook.
1.10 A member may not submit more than two entries for any one competition (one panel entry for the Folio Five competition).
1.11 In all Monthly Print/PDI Competitions points will be awarded for each image out of a maximum of 20. In addition, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Highly Commended and Commended places will be awarded.
The points for all images submitted to each competition will count and at the end of the season the member with the highest number of aggregate points in each competition will be awarded the appropriate Trophy.
1.12 In the Print/PDI Personal Selection Competitions, the Print/PDI of the Year Competitions, Landscape Competitions and the Folio Five Competition only 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded and the member with the first placed image/folio in each competition will be awarded the appropriate Trophy.
1.13 At the end of the Club’s season, in the event of a tie, in either the Monthly Print or PDI Competitions, the competitor with the highest number of images awarded 20 points will be awarded the trophy. If there is still a tie, then the number of images with 19 points will decide the winner.
If this does not determine the winner, then the number of images with 18 points will decide, etc. If the position is still unresolved, then those concerned will enter their highest scoring image for a decision to be made by the judge at the Print and PDI of the Year Competition Night.
1.14 All trophies are held for one season only.
1.15 Images which have been entered into any competition except the Folio Five competition must not be entered into any subsequent competition.
1.16 All images submitted for internal club competitions will be assumed to be available for selection for external competitions unless the author has requested otherwise in writing to the competition secretaries.
1.17` Images that share substantial pictorial content, even if from separate captures, will be considered to be the same image and cannot be separately entered into competitions. This applies to a monochrome version of a colour image and vice versa.
1.18 All competition entries must bear a title and the author’s competition number. If a member chooses not to be named on competition night, the letter A should follow the competition number; if a member wishes to enter a print or PDI for critique only (no marking), the letter C should follow the competition number. A member’s right to anonymity will, however, be waived if an image achieves 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, Highly Commended or Commended in a competition.
1.19 PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR This Trophy will be awarded to the member with the highest aggregate points total for the ten monthly competitions, Print and PDI (excluding the two Landscape competitions and Folio Five).
2. ADDITIONAL RULES for the PRINT COMPETITIONS
2.1 General
2.1.1 Prints may be colour or monochrome and may be produced by digital or darkroom methods. They must be mounted to a size no larger than 20” x 16” (50cm x 40cm preferred)
2.1.2 The author’s name must not be shown on prints.
2.1.3 A PDI copy of the print entry must be emailed to the Print Competition Secretary at the same time as the print is submitted. This should conform to the stipulations in Rules 1.18 and 3.1.1.
2.2 Monthly Print Competitions – The Reg Moth Print Trophy
2.2.1 Images entered as prints in this competition may not be entered in any subsequent competition, other than the Print of the Year / Personal Selection Competitions, if eligible, and the Folio Five competition, subject to Rule 3.6.3.
2.3 Landscape Print Trophy
2.3.1 Entries for this competition must be of a landscape in the British Isles and must show it as it exists, composite images not being allowed.
2.3.2 Images entered as prints in this competition may not be entered in any subsequent competition except the Folio Five competition, subject to Rule 3.6.3.
2.4 Print of the Year Competition
2.4.1 All prints awarded a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in a monthly competition will be eligible for entry (excluding those entered in the Landscape Print Competition).
2.5 Print Personal Selection Cup
2.5.1 The competition is open only to members who have entered images in at least one of the five Monthly Print Competitions during the season and not obtained a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.
2.5.2 Each entrant may select two images from those submitted for the five Monthly Competitions and submit them on the final collection night.
2.5.3 If, in any season, fewer than five members qualify for the Print Personal Selection Competition, the competition will be suspended for that season and the members qualifying will be entitled to submit one print to the Print of the Year Competition.
This print must be one which would otherwise qualify under Rule 2.5.2.
3. ADDITIONAL RULES for the PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGE (PDI) COMPETITIONS
3.1 General
3.1.1 The maximum dimensions of the file must be no more than 2500 pixels in the longest direction. The files must be in JPEG format.
3.1.2 Digital images must be emailed to the competition secretary by the date given in the Programme on the Club website and in the Handbook.
3.2 Monthly PDI Competitions – Martin Mansbridge PDI Trophy
3.2.1 PDIs entered in this competition may not be entered in any subsequent competition other than the PDI of the Year / Personal Selection Competitions, if eligible, and the Folio Five Competition subject to Rule 3.6.3.
3.3 Landscape PDI Trophy
3.3.1 Entries for this competition must be of a landscape in the British Isles and must show it as it exists, composite images not being allowed.
3.3.2 PDIs entered in this competition may not be entered in any subsequent competition except the Folio Five competition, subject to Rule 3.6.3.
3.4 Projected Digital Image of the Year Competition – Dave Poole Trophy
3.4.1 All images awarded a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in each of the Monthly PDI Competitions will be eligible for entry (excluding those entered in the Landscape PDI Competition).
3.5 PDI Personal Selection Cup
3.5.1 The competition is open only to members who have entered images in at least one of the five Monthly Competitions during the season and not obtained a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.
3.5.2 Each entrant may select two images from those submitted for the five Monthly Competitions, and notify the Competition Secretary of his/her choices.
3.6 Folio Five PDI competition
3.6.1 The Folio Five competition subject will be ‘open’.
3.6.2 Entries are restricted to one set of five digital images which form a set with a common theme, together with a sixth image presenting them as a panel, including a title.
3.6.3 Digital images entered in this competition must not have obtained a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in any competition in any previous Club season
3.6.4 Images entered in this competition may be entered in subsequent Print or PDI Competitions subject to general rules of eligibility.
