Chairman’s Welcoming Remarks

Welcome to the website of Tyndale Photography Club. We are currently in strange unprecedented times and this has presented our club with many new challenges. When we made the decision in the middle of March 2020, just one week before the full lockdown came into effect, to suspend all future meetings for the rest of the season, little did we realise that with October looming on the horizon we would still be unable to meet together at our usual venue for the start of our 2020-21 season.

As so many clubs and societies have found, one saving grace has come to the rescue – in a word ZOOM! How many of us had even heard of Zoom back in March, let alone how to use it effectively for meetings!? Since then our committee has been working very hard to get to grips with it to ensure that we can continue as a club to meet virtually.

Fortunately, we have discovered that many of our previously booked speakers and competition judges are already ahead of the game and are willing to deliver their presentations and appraisals by Zoom. This of course has meant that we have also had to bring our membership up to speed with the technology! Thanks to the patient and unstinting efforts of those who know far more about it than me, I believe that we can now look forward with confidence to a full programme of talks, competitions and evenings where members can share their own work with the rest of the club. One unfortunate outcome though has been that we have, for logistical reasons, had to abandon our print competitions at least for the 2020-21 season.

For the first time since the club was founded in 1948, we are not publishing a handbook for the coming season, but all necessary details relating to our programme, competition rules etc. can be found on this website.

Because of the current situation we will not be attempting to recruit new members for obvious reasons, but for those visiting our website, we hope you will enjoy the images that you see here, and if you find yourself sufficiently inspired to join us in the future, please get in touch (see ‘Contact us’ under the Welcome tab). We would love to hear from you!
